The Idling Time report shows how many hours each of your vehicles spends idling — running but not moving — day by day. Idle time burns fuel and adds engine hours without moving anything, so this is one of the fastest places to find savings across a fleet.
Applies to: vehicular telematics trackers — OBD trackers and hardwired devices · Hapn web app (Reports). Battery-powered portable trackers can't detect engine state, so they don't appear in this report. No setup is required for compatible trackers.
Where to find it
Open Reports and select Idling Time under Asset Reports.
What it shows
The report is a grid: each row is an asset and each column is a day, with idle hours in each cell and an Idle Time Total for the period per asset. Summary cards at the top show your total Assets, Average Hours/Day, and Total Idle Hours, so you can spot both fleet-wide trends and individual outliers at a glance.
Choose a preset range (last 7, 14, or 30 days) or a custom date range, filter by asset, and adjust columns from the report options.
How idling is detected
A vehicle counts as idling when its engine is running but the vehicle isn't moving. That depends on your tracker knowing the engine's ignition state: OBD trackers detect it from the vehicle directly, while hardwired trackers use Virtual Ignition (wired or voltage-based detection). If idle numbers look off for a hardwired install, check the tracker's Virtual Ignition sensitivity settings — detection accuracy can vary by vehicle.
Get notified about excessive idling
You don't have to wait for the report — set up an Idling alert to be notified in the moment:
- Go to Alerts and click Create an Alert.
- Select Idling (under Telematics Alerts).
- Set the threshold — how many minutes a vehicle can idle before the alert fires. You can also add a Trigger Delay so brief stops don't trigger it.
- Choose the assets, places, schedule, and recipients, then save.

Export and scheduling
Use Export CSV to pull the data into fuel, maintenance, or payroll workflows, or Schedule the report to be emailed automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence.
