Hapn shows a vehicle's current ignition state in several places. A history of when the ignition went on and off comes from one place: the Ignition On and Ignition Off alerts, which log every event to the Alerts Feed. None of the built-in reports has an ignition column you can export alongside positions.
Applies to: OBD and hardwired trackers — the only trackers the ignition alerts apply to. Hardwired trackers detect ignition from an ignition wire or Virtual Ignition. Battery-powered asset trackers aren't connected to an engine and have no ignition state.
Get an ignition on/off log
- Set up the ignition alerts for the vehicles you care about. Go to Alerts & Issues and click Create alert rule. Under Asset Status & Health Alerts there are two separate types, Ignition On and Ignition Off — set up both so that both directions are logged. See How to Set Up Alerts and Notifications for the full walkthrough.
- Once the rule is running, open Reports and select Alerts Feed.
- Set the date range, then open Filters → Type and select Ignition On and Ignition Off. Add a Tracker filter if you only want one vehicle.
- Click Export CSV.
Each row is one event, with the tracker, the event type, the date and time, and the address where it happened.
Set this up before you need it. Alerts are recorded from the moment the rule exists. If no ignition alert was running yesterday, there's no ignition log for yesterday to export — the alert can't be applied after the fact.
What the other reports do and don't show
- Tracker Positions lists every position report with its time, address, coordinates, speed, odometer, battery and external power. It has no ignition column.
- Trip and Stop History lists trips and stops with start and end times and addresses. A stop is not the same as the engine being off: a vehicle can sit idling with the engine running, and stops shorter than the tracker's Stop Threshold for Trips (15 minutes by default) don't end a trip at all.
- Tracker Status and Health and the Equipment Telematics Status Report both show ignition, but only the current state — one value per tracker, right now. In Tracker Status and Health, add it from Columns → Ignition Status; in the Equipment Telematics Status Report the Ignition column is on by default.
- A custom report built on Trackers & Assets can include Ignition status, which is likewise the current state.
Building a full picture of one vehicle's day
If you need location, speed and ignition events together — for a dispute, an incident or a timesheet check — export two files for the same vehicle and date range and line them up by time:
- Tracker Positions → Export CSV, for where the vehicle was and how fast it was going. Switch on the Latitude and Longitude columns first if you want coordinates as separate fields.
- Alerts Feed, filtered to Ignition On and Ignition Off → Export CSV, for when the engine started and stopped.
Totals rather than individual events
If what you really need is how long the engine ran or idled, you don't need an event log. Select the vehicle on the map and open History: the Daily summary shows Active Hours and Idle Time for the day alongside distance, trips, stops and max speed. Across a fleet, the Engine Runtime, Daily Active Hours and Idling Time reports give the same measures per vehicle.
Where to see the current ignition state
- On the asset card: an Ignition On or Ignition Off pill.
- When you select a vehicle on the map: the Ignition tile in the side panel, and the status line on the map, e.g. “Stopped · Ignition Off”.
- Across the fleet: the reports listed above.
