The Fleet Utilization report shows how hard each asset in your fleet is actually working — measured in engine hours against a benchmark — so you can spot idle equipment that's a candidate for redeployment, and see which asset classes are earning their keep.
Applies to: assets with engine-hour data — OBD trackers and hardwired devices · Hapn web app (Reports). No setup is required for compatible trackers.
Where to find it
Open Reports and select Fleet Utilization under Asset Reports.
How utilization is calculated
Utilization % = total engine hours ÷ (days in period × 8 hours). The 8 hours/day reflects standard single-shift usage, so 100% means one full shift per day, and 300% means round-the-clock operation.
Each asset gets a status:
- Non-Utilized — no engine hours or movement for the configured number of consecutive days. These are your candidates for ending a rental or redeploying.
- Below Benchmark — active, but period utilization is under the configured benchmark.
- At / Above Benchmark — meeting or beating the target.
What it shows
Summary cards at the top show your Assets in Report, Average Fleet Utilization against the benchmark, and counts of Non-Utilized and Below Benchmark assets. Two charts break down Assets by Utilization Band and Utilization by Class vs Benchmark, comparing each asset class's average against the target.
The per-asset table lists each asset's class, engine hours, utilization %, points vs benchmark, days since activity, and status — and you can filter to just the non-utilized or below-benchmark assets.
Where the thresholds come from
Two account-wide settings decide how assets are classified. Both live in Settings → Organization Platform Settings → Fleet Utilization:
- Utilization benchmark — assets below this utilization are flagged Below Benchmark. The default is 40%.
- Idle window — no activity for this many days marks an asset Non-Utilized. The default is 5 days.
These apply to the whole organization, so changing them changes how every asset in this report is classified. If most of your fleet is showing as Below Benchmark, check the benchmark before concluding the fleet is under-used — a 40% default assumes a little under half a single shift per day.
Filtering, export, and scheduling
Use preset or custom date ranges (the default is the last 30 days), filter by asset, adjust the columns, and Export CSV or use Schedule to have the report emailed on a recurring basis — a weekly utilization email is an easy way to keep redeployment decisions on a cadence.
