Troubleshooting Missing Location Data
If you're not seeing expected location history, try these solutions:
Check Tracker Connection
Your tracker must be connected to report location data:
- Verify tracker status: Check that your tracker shows as "online" in your account
- Check signal strength: Ensure your tracker has both GPS and cellular connectivity
- Test current location: Verify your tracker is currently reporting its position
Restart Your Tracker
If your tracker appears offline or isn't updating:
- Power cycle your tracker: Turn off and restart your device
- Test outdoors: Take your tracker outside for 5-10 minutes to establish connections
- Check LED indicators: Verify your tracker's lights show proper connectivity
For device-specific restart instructions, see our Tracker Troubleshooting Guides.
Clear Browser Cache (Web App Only)
Browser issues can sometimes prevent location data from displaying:
- Use recommended browser: Google Chrome works best with the Hapn platform
-
Clear browser cache:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data
- Select "All time" and check all boxes
- Click "Clear data"
- Refresh and retry: Close and reopen your browser, then try again
Adjust Filter Settings
If you're missing specific time periods:
- Expand date range: Try viewing longer time periods
- Remove tracker filters: Ensure all relevant trackers are selected
- Check different data views: Try Activities, Time Machine, and Reports to compare results
Data Limitations and Retention
Understanding data limitations helps set proper expectations:
Display Limitations
- Activities: Shows up to 25 points per view
- Time Machine: Best performance with date ranges under 7 days
- Reports: No display limits, but large datasets may take longer to load
Data Retention
- Location history is retained for the duration of your active subscription
- Historical data remains accessible even if your tracker goes offline temporarily
- Detailed data retention policies are available in your account terms
Update Frequency
Location data appears based on your tracker's reporting mode:
- Performance Mode: Updates every 5-60 seconds when moving
- Normal Mode: Updates every 1-10 minutes when moving
- Power Saving Mode: Updates at set intervals (1-24 hours)
