Custom map overlays let you draw your own shapes, lines, and boundaries on top of the Live Map using a KML file — so you can see your tracking data in the context of things like service territories, job sites, planned routes, or restricted zones.

How to add an overlay
- Open the Live Map.
- Click the layers icon in the top-right corner of the map.
- Select Map Overlays, then click Add overlay.
- Enter a name for the overlay.
- Paste the public KML URL for your overlay.
- Click Save. The overlay appears on your Live Map, and you can turn it on or off from the same Map Overlays panel.
Creating a KML file
Overlays use KML, a standard mapping format. The easiest way to make one is with Google My Maps: draw your shapes, then use the three-dot menu to Export to KML/KMZ. The file needs to be hosted at a public URL that Hapn can read. Other tools that export KML include Google Earth Pro, ArcGIS, and QGIS.
