The Spytec Atlas XL Asset Tracker features an integrated battery that can last from 30 days to 18 months, depending on your chosen reporting mode. This guide explains battery life expectations, how to monitor battery status, and factors that affect performance.

Battery Life by Reporting Mode

Your tracker's battery life varies based on the selected Reporting Mode. The table below shows the expected battery life for each mode. The estimates below are based on 2 hours of movement per day:

Note: Normal Mode is the default setting, providing an optimal balance between tracking frequency and battery life.

 

Checking Your Tracker's Battery Status

To view your tracker's battery status:

  1. Click on the tracker card on your map view
  2. The battery icon will appear at the top of the card
  3. The battery percentage will be displayed in the section below the icon

Charging Your Tracker

Charging Instructions

  1. Place the tracker on the wireless charging pad using the alignment frame
  2. Both Status and GPS lights will flash simultaneously every second during charging
  3. Both lights will remain solid when fully charged (approximately 6-8 hours)
  4. Remove the tracker from the charging pad when complete

Charging Indicators

  • Flashing lights: Charging in progress
  • Solid lights: Fully charged
  • No lights: Check alignment on charging pad
     

Factors Affecting Battery Life

Several conditions can impact your tracker's battery performance:

1. Operating Hours

Longer periods of movement drain the battery faster. A tracker in motion for 10 hours will use more battery than one moving for 2 hours.

2. Temperature Extremes

  • Operating range: -4°F to 158°F (-20°C to 70°C)
  • Optimal range: 32°F to 95°F (0°C to 35°C)
  • Extreme temperatures outside the operating range can significantly reduce battery life

3. GPS Signal Strength

Poor GPS signal causes the tracker to continuously search for satellites, draining the battery. To maintain a good GPS signal:

  • Avoid enclosed metal spaces
  • Ensure a clear view of the sky
  • Check tracker placement regularly

4. Cellular Signal Strength

Weak cellular coverage forces the tracker to work harder to maintain connection. During signal loss:

  • The tracker stores location data
  • Battery drains faster while searching for signal
  • Data uploads in bulk when connection resumes
     

Tips for Maximizing Battery Life

  1. Choose the appropriate reporting mode for your tracking needs
  2. Maintain optimal placement for good GPS and cellular signals
  3. Operate within recommended temperature ranges when possible
  4. Monitor battery levels regularly through the Hapn app
  5. Charge completely before extended deployments
