Overview
Battery-powered trackers like the GL300, GL501/521 Asset Trackers, and others display their current battery percentage in the Hapn platform. This information helps you monitor when your tracker needs charging to maintain reliable tracking.
Trackers that display battery percentage:
- GL300 Portable Tracker
- GL501/521 Asset Trackers
- Other rechargeable portable models
Note: OBD and hardwired trackers are powered by your vehicle and don't display battery percentages.
Viewing Battery on Mobile App and Web App
- Open the Hapn mobile or web app
- Tap on your tracker icon on the map to open the tracker card
- Look at the battery icon in the upper section of the tracker card
- Tap on the tracker card to view detailed information
- Scroll down to find the battery percentage displayed in the details section
Understanding Battery Information
Battery Icon Indicators
- Green battery icon: Good charge level (above 50%)
- Yellow battery icon: Medium charge level (20-50%)
- Red battery icon: Low charge level (below 20%)
- Lightning bolt icon: Tracker is currently charging
When to Charge
- GL300: Charge when battery drops below 20%
- GL501/521: Can run for weeks, but charge when below 20%
- Extended battery cases: Monitor both external and internal battery levels
Trackers with Extended Battery Cases
If your tracker uses an extended battery case (M4 Pro, M6 Pro XL), you can enable viewing of both external and internal battery percentages.
Enabling Extended Battery Monitoring
- Navigate to tracker settings (using either method above)
- Find "Connected to external battery"
- Toggle the setting to ON
- Save your changes
What You'll See After Enabling
- External battery case percentage (powers the tracker first)
- Internal tracker battery percentage (backup power)
How Extended Batteries Work
- The external battery powers your tracker first
- When the external battery reaches 0%, the tracker switches to internal battery
- Both percentages help you plan charging schedules
Setting Up Low Battery Alerts
Stay informed about your tracker's battery status with automatic alerts:
- Go to the Alerts section in the web app
- Click "Create new alert"
- Select "Low Battery" as the alert type
- Set your preferred threshold (recommended: 20%)
- Choose notification method (email, SMS, or app notification)
- Save the alert
For detailed alert setup instructions, see our guide: How to Set Up Alerts and Notifications
Troubleshooting
If You Don't See Battery Information
- Check tracker type: OBD and hardwired trackers don't show battery percentages
- Verify tracker is online: Battery info only updates when the tracker has connectivity
- Refresh the app: Close and reopen the mobile app or refresh the web browser
- Check tracker model: Some older models may not report battery percentage
If Battery Percentage Seems Incorrect
- Allow time for updates: Battery levels update with each location report
- Check charging status: Recently charged trackers may take time to show accurate levels
- Verify tracker placement: Poor connectivity can affect battery reporting accuracy
When Battery Shows 0% But Tracker Still Works
- Extended battery case: The external battery may be depleted, but internal battery is still working
- Calibration needed: Some trackers require a full charge cycle to recalibrate battery reporting
- Contact support: Persistent battery reporting issues may require technical assistance
