Overview
You can customize how speed and distance measurements are displayed throughout your Hapn account. These settings affect all trackers in your account and apply to maps, reports, and alert notifications.
Available units:
- Speed: Miles per hour (MPH) or Kilometers per hour (KPH)
- Distance: Miles, Kilometers, Feet, Meters, or Yards
Note: Changing these settings only affects how data is displayed - it doesn't change historical data or tracker functionality.
Changing Units on the Web App

Log in to your account
- Visit app.gethapn.com in your web browser
- Enter your email and password

Access account settings
- Click the settings icon (⚙️) in the upper right corner

Update measurement units
- Select the "Account" tab if not already selected
- Find the "Units" section on the page
- Speed: Choose between "Miles per hour" or "Kilometers per hour"
- Distance: Select from Miles, Kilometers, Feet, Meters, or Yards

Save your changes
- Click "Save" at the bottom of the page
- Your new settings will apply immediately across the platform
Changing Units on the Mobile App

Open the mobile app
- Launch the Hapn app and log in to your account

Access preferences
- Tap the menu icon in the bottom right corner
- Scroll down to the "Preferences" section
- Tap "Settings"

Update measurement units
- Scroll to the "Units" section at the bottom of the screen
- Speed: Toggle between MPH and KPH
- Distance: Select your preferred distance unit

Save your changes
- Tap "Save Changes" at the bottom of the screen
- Your new settings will apply immediately
Understanding Unit Changes
What Changes
- Live tracking displays: Current speed and distances on maps
- Historical data views: Time Machine and Activities sections
- Reports: All exported data will use your selected units
- Alert notifications: Speed and distance values in alerts
What Doesn't Change
- Tracker reporting: Your tracker continues to collect data normally
- Historical accuracy: Past data remains accurate, just displayed differently
- Other users: If you share your account, other users see their own unit preferences
When Changes Take Effect
- Immediately: New settings apply as soon as you save
- Current session: Refresh your browser or restart the mobile app to see changes
- All platforms: Changes sync across web and mobile apps
Troubleshooting
If unit options don't appear:
- Ensure you're in the correct settings section (Account settings, not tracker settings)
- Try refreshing your browser or restarting the mobile app
- Check that you're logged in as the account owner (not a collaborator)
If changes don't save:
- Verify you have a stable internet connection
- Make sure you clicked "Save" or "Save Changes"
- Try logging out and back in, then repeat the process
If you don't see changes after saving:
- Refresh your web browser or close/reopen the mobile app
- Check a different section (like reports) to verify the change took effect
- Wait a few minutes - some changes may take time to propagate
