Overview
Your tracker's status tells you what your device is currently doing and the quality of its GPS and cellular connections. Understanding these statuses helps you interpret your tracker's location accuracy and know when action might be needed.
Online Status Indicators
When your tracker is Online, it has an active connection to the Hapn platform and you'll see one of these specific statuses:
Moving
- What it means: Your tracker has good GPS and cellular signals and is currently in motion
- Visual indicator: You'll see an illuminated ring around the tracker icon on the map
- Location accuracy: High - within 10-20 feet of actual position
Stopped
- What it means: Your tracker has good GPS and cellular signals and is stationary
- What you'll see: The status shows "Stopped" with the current address displayed
- Location accuracy: High - within 10-20 feet of actual position
Stopped without GPS
- What it means: Your tracker has cellular connection but has lost GPS signal
- How location is determined: Uses nearby cellular towers for approximate position
- Location accuracy: Varies - could be anywhere from the same general area to up to 1 mile from actual location
- Common causes: Device is indoors, in a parking garage, underground, or in a building
- What happens next: GPS automatically reconnects when the device moves outdoors with clear sky view
Offline Status
When your tracker shows Offline, it means the device is not currently communicating with the Hapn platform. This typically happens due to:
- Battery depletion
- Loss of cellular coverage
- Device being powered off
- Technical issues with the tracker
What Each Status Means
Status | GPS Signal | Cellular Signal | Location Accuracy | What's Happening |
---|---|---|---|---|
Moving | ✓ Good | ✓ Good | High (10-20 ft) | Normal tracking in motion |
Stopped | ✓ Good | ✓ Good | High (10-20 ft) | Normal tracking while stationary |
Stopped without GPS | ✗ Lost | ✓ Good | Variable (same area to 1 mile) | Likely indoors/covered area |
Offline | Unknown | ✗ Lost | Last known position | No communication with platform |
When to Take Action
Normal Situations (No Action Needed)
- Moving or Stopped with good signals
- Stopped without GPS when you know the device is indoors or in a garage
- Offline for short periods (under 30 minutes) in known poor coverage areas
Action May Be Needed
- Stopped without GPS for extended periods when device should be outdoors
- Offline for more than 30 minutes in areas with known good coverage
- Any status that doesn't match your expectations for the device's location
Troubleshooting Status Issues
If your tracker shows "Stopped without GPS" unexpectedly:
- Check the device location: Is it actually indoors or in a covered area?
- Move it outdoors: Take the tracker to an open area with clear sky view
- Wait for reconnection: GPS typically reconnects within 2-5 minutes outdoors
- Verify placement: Ensure the tracker isn't in a metal enclosure blocking signals
If your tracker shows "Offline":
- Check power: Ensure the device is charged and powered on
- Verify coverage: Make sure you're in an area with cellular service
- Wait and monitor: Check if the status changes within 30 minutes
- Try moving the device: Take it to a location with better cellular coverage
If the status seems incorrect:
- Refresh your app: Close and reopen the mobile app or refresh the web browser
- Check recent activity: Look at the last update time to see when status last changed
- Verify account status: Ensure your subscription is active
