LED Light Overview
Your hardwired tracker (GV-50) has two LED indicator lights that show the device's connection status. These lights help you verify proper installation and diagnose connection issues.
LED Locations: The indicator lights are typically visible on the tracker unit after installation.
What Each Light Means
Green LED (Cellular Connection)
Purpose: Shows your tracker's connection to the Hapn platform through cellular networks.
Light Patterns:
- Slow blinking (once every 3 seconds): Good cellular connection - normal operation
- Rapid blinking (once per second): Actively attempting to connect to cellular network
- Off: No cellular connection or device powered off
Red LED (GPS Connection)
Purpose: Shows whether your tracker can determine its location using GPS satellites.
Light Patterns:
- Blinking red: Searching for GPS satellites
- Solid red: Successfully connected to GPS satellites with good signal
- Off: Device in standby mode, powered off, or GPS signal lost
Normal Operation Patterns
Optimal Performance
What you should see: Red LED solid + Green LED slow blinking
- GPS has satellite lock for accurate positioning
- Cellular connection is strong and data is transmitting
- Tracker is operating normally
Initial Startup/Connection
What you might see: Red LED blinking + Green LED rapid blinking
- Both GPS and cellular are connecting (normal after installation or power cycle)
- Expected duration: 2-10 minutes depending on location and signal strength
- Action: Wait for connections to stabilize
GPS Signal Issues
What you might see: Red LED blinking/off + Green LED slow blinking
- Cellular connection is good but GPS needs better signal
- Common causes: Underground parking, dense urban areas, poor sky view
- Action: Vehicle will reconnect to GPS when moved to open area
Common Light Combinations
Red LED (GPS) | Green LED (Cellular) | Status | What It Means |
---|---|---|---|
Solid | Slow blink | ✅ Normal | Tracker operating perfectly |
Blinking | Slow blink | ⚠️ GPS Connecting | Good cellular, GPS acquiring signal |
Solid/Blinking | Rapid blink | ⚠️ Cellular Connecting | GPS working, cellular network connecting |
Blinking | Rapid blink | ⚠️ Both Connecting | Initial startup - wait 5-10 minutes |
Off | Slow blink | ⚠️ GPS Issue | Cellular good, GPS signal lost |
Off | Off | ❌ No Power | Device not receiving power |
Troubleshooting Light Issues
No Lights At All
Possible causes:
- Tracker not properly connected to vehicle's electrical system
- Blown fuse in installation circuit
- Vehicle battery disconnected or dead
- Faulty wiring during installation
Solutions:
- Check vehicle power: Ensure vehicle battery is charged and connected
- Verify installation: Confirm all wiring connections are secure
- Check fuses: Look for blown fuses in the circuit used for installation
- Test with ignition: Try with vehicle ignition in different positions
- Contact installer: If professionally installed, contact the installation service
Green LED Rapid Blinking for Extended Time
Possible causes:
- Poor cellular coverage in current location
- Network connectivity issues
- SIM card or cellular module problems
Solutions:
- Move vehicle: Drive to area with better cellular signal
- Wait longer: Initial cellular connection can take 10-15 minutes
- Check coverage: Verify cellular service in your area
- Restart system: Turn vehicle off for 5 minutes, then restart
Red LED Won't Turn Solid
Possible causes:
- Obstructed GPS signal (underground, covered areas)
- Poor tracker placement blocking GPS antenna
- GPS module issues
Solutions:
- Move to open area: Drive to location with clear view of sky
- Wait for acquisition: GPS connection can take 5-10 minutes outdoors
- Check placement: Ensure tracker isn't blocked by metal dashboard components
- Test different locations: Try parking in various outdoor locations
Intermittent Light Patterns
Possible causes:
- Loose wiring connections
- Intermittent power supply
- Poor installation
Solutions:
- Check connections: Verify all wiring is secure and properly connected
- Inspect installation: Look for loose connections or damaged wires
- Monitor patterns: Note when lights behave normally vs. abnormally
- Professional inspection: Have installation checked by qualified technician
