When This Procedure is Needed
Important: In most cases, you will not need to remove your SIM card. This procedure should only be performed when:
- Recommended by Hapn Customer Service as part of troubleshooting
- Your tracker has lost cellular signal and other troubleshooting steps have failed
- You're experiencing persistent connectivity issues after other solutions
Do not attempt this procedure unless specifically instructed by support or if you're confident in handling small electronic components.
Before You Begin
What You'll Need
- Small Phillips head screwdriver (typically #00 or #0)
- Clean, well-lit workspace
- Small container to hold screws safely
Important Precautions
- Power off your tracker before beginning
- Work in a static-free environment - avoid carpeted areas
- Keep screws secure - they are very small and easy to lose
- Handle the SIM card carefully - avoid touching the metal contacts
- Take photos before disassembly if you're unsure about reassembly
Warranty Note
This procedure, when performed correctly, does not void your warranty. However, damage caused by improper handling may not be covered.
GL300 SIM Card Removal
Step 1: Locate the SIM Card Slot
- Find the SIM card compartment on the right side of the GL300 tracker
- You'll see a rectangular tray held in place by two small screws
Step 2: Remove the Securing Screws
- Use a small Phillips head screwdriver (#00 or #0 size)
- Carefully remove both screws from either end of the SIM card tray
- Place screws in a secure container immediately - they are very small and easy to lose
- Turn screws counterclockwise to loosen and remove
Tip: If screws are difficult to turn, ensure you're using the correct size screwdriver to avoid stripping the screw heads.
Step 3: Remove the SIM Card Tray
- Gently slide the SIM card tray out of the tracker
- Note the orientation of the SIM card in the tray for proper reinstallation
- Handle the tray carefully to avoid bending or damaging it
Step 4: Wait Period
- Leave the SIM card out for at least 60 seconds
- This allows the tracker's cellular module to fully reset
- Do not touch the metal contacts on the SIM card during this time
Step 5: Reinsert the SIM Card Tray
- Check proper orientation: The bottom of the SIM card logo should align with the notch in the GL300 case
- Gently slide the tray back into the tracker until it sits flush
- Ensure the tray is fully seated before replacing screws
Step 6: Replace the Securing Screws
- Replace both screws in their original positions
- Tighten gently - do not over-tighten as this can strip the threads
- Ensure the tray is secure but the screws should not be extremely tight
Step 7: Power On and Test
- Press the power button on top of the tracker to turn it on
- Wait 2-3 minutes for the tracker to boot up and establish connections
- Check LED indicators for proper connectivity
After Reinstalling the SIM Card
Expected LED Behavior
After powering on your tracker, you should see:
-
Blue GPS Light:
- Starts blinking (searching for GPS satellites)
- Becomes solid when GPS connection is established
- Then turns off during normal operation
-
Green Cellular Light:
- Starts blinking rapidly (connecting to cellular network)
- Changes to slow blinking (approximately once every 3 seconds)
- Slow blinking indicates successful cellular connection
Testing Connection
- Allow 5-10 minutes for full connection establishment
- Check your Hapn account to see if the tracker appears online
- Take the tracker outside if it's having trouble connecting indoors
- Wait for location updates to appear in your account
For detailed information about LED indicators, see our Tracker Light Guide.
Troubleshooting
If the Tracker Won't Power On
- Check battery level: Connect to charger for 30 minutes
- Verify SIM card orientation: Ensure tray is inserted correctly
- Check screw tightness: Ensure screws are secure but not over-tightened
If Cellular Connection Fails
- Move to open area: Try the procedure in a location with good cellular coverage
- Wait longer: Initial connection can take up to 10 minutes
- Check account status: Verify your subscription is active
- Try the procedure again: Sometimes a second attempt resolves the issue
If You Lose a Screw
- Contact support immediately: Replacement screws may be available
- Do not use substitute screws: Wrong size screws can damage the threads
- Secure the remaining screw: Tighten the remaining screw to keep the tray in place temporarily
If LED Lights Don't Behave as Expected
- Reference our LED guide: Different light patterns indicate different issues
- Allow more time: Some connections take longer in poor signal areas
- Try outdoor testing: GPS and cellular signals are stronger outside
