Step 1 - Locate your IMEI
Locate the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number on the side of your tracker. The number is 15 digits long. You will need to enter it to set up your account.
Step 2 - Activate your tracker
- From your computer or smartphone, go to: https://checkout.gethapn.com/.
- Follow the activation steps. Tip: Keep your tracker IMEI handy.
- Login to the tracking app by:
- Going to app.gethapn.com from your computer
- Going to our website, gethapn.com and clicking “Login”
- Downloading our mobile apps:
- Download Hapn for iOS
- Download Hapn for Android
- Once you’re logged into your tracking applications, you’ll need to make sure your tracker is connected by following the steps below.
Step 3 - Charging
- Set the wireless charging pad down into the alignment frame with the blank side facing up
- Connect the USB cable/AC adapter to the wireless pad through one of the alignment frame's access holes. The pad light will come on Green.
- Place the Tracker on the wireless charging pad. The pad light will turn pulsing red that it recognizes a device is resting on it.
- Both the Green Status LED and Blue GPS LED on the tracker will flash simultaneously once per second while charging is in progress, and they will both light solid once fully charged.
- Pick the tracker up off the wireless pad and both LEDs on the device will turn off. The pad light will go back to solid green light.
Step 4 - Placement of the tracker
If the device goes inside the cabin of the vehicle, we recommend under the passenger seat:
- lights side up, back on the floor
- close to windows as possible
-
avoid metals between the tracker and windows - no trunk, no glove box, no center console
If the device goes outside the car with the Magnetic Mount (*sold separately), we recommend attaching to the steel frame under the doors on either side:
- device hangs upside down - tracker lights point straight down to pavement
- signal is bouncing off the ground, not going through the car, so 6"+ from vehicle edges is too far
- no bumpers, no arm's length from the edge, no wheel wells
Here is an article describing both placement options: Where should I place the tracker for use on a vehicle?
- When placing the tracker using either the included mount or the Magnetic version of the mount, it will clip into the back side of the device.
- The included mount can use the Adhesive sheet and/or the tapping screws.
| 💡️The default tracking frequency is trip updates every 10 minutes when the tracker is moving and updates every 12 hours when it is stopped. To learn more about updating the tracking frequency, please click here. |
Important Facts
- The default configuration for the face button of the tracker is to Power the device On if the device is off, but once the device is On, the button will send the SOS message to us which can trigger the SOS alert if it is configured on the tracking account's Alert Rules.
- Power On light behavior: both the Green and the Blue status LED will flash a minute, then only one color light will flash for 1-2 minutes, then the other color light will flash 1-2 minutes, then there will be no lights on, but the tracker is on.
- SOS light behavior: if the tracker is already powered on, then Both LEDs will light solid immediately when the face button is pressed, and after 3 seconds of holding the button in, both LEDs will flash simultaneously once per second until the button is released.
- The face button of the device can be reconfigured in the tracker settings to only be Power On and Power Off. If this change is made, pressing and holding the face button will begin the Power Off process, and the device can no longer do the SOS function.
FAQs
Question
Why does the app say Configure Your Tracker?
Answer
This means the device has not yet connected to cell to begin reporting positions to us. Click on the 'Configure your tracker' option and it will walk through setting up your tracker.
Question
What should I do if my device says “last updated X days ago,” or "Offline"?
Answer
Both messages mean the device hasn't checked in with our platform recently. You'll need to troubleshoot with your device in this order: Power → Cell → GPS.
POWER
When powered on, it is normal to see no lights on the device at all, regardless of motion. Pressing the face button will tell you if the device is on or off.
- If the device is off, you will see no lights for the first 3 seconds of holding the button down, but then light activity should begin.
- If the device was off but the lights are not continuing to flash the full 3-5 minutes power on pattern as described in the "Important Facts" section above, the device is likely too low of battery to power up all the way and needs some time to charge first.
- If the device is already powered on, the lights will turn on immediately on button press and stay lit solid for 3 seconds before turning to the simultaneous flashing pattern that indicates the device is sending an SOS message to our platform (this bridges into cell troubleshooting).
- Common Charging Issue: Pad light continues to be Green, does not turn Red
- Typically this is caused by the pad flipped over on the wrong side. The blank black side of the pad needs to be face up to the back of the tracker.
- Common Charging Issue: Pad light goes Red Green Red Green back and forth
- This is the pad's error pattern. Typically this is caused by the mount still being attached to the back of the tracker, especially the magnetic mount.
CELL
Unfortunately since the device does not show any lights during normal operation and does the same light pattern for SOS function with or without cell signal, the only way to tell is by the lack of updates on the platform:
- Check the current Reporting Mode setting on the app and check the unit is Powered On: First check on the Tracker Settings in the app what the selected Reporting Mode is. Note that if the device is on any Power Saving mode, this disables Motion Reporting so moving the device would not elicit any update on the platform. Then check power status by pressing the face button: by default settings if the tracker is Powered On you should see both LEDs on the device light up Immediately to indicate it is beginning the SOS message send.
- Complete the SOS press: If you do get both LEDs on solid immediately on Button press, keep holding the button down the full 3+ seconds until you get the simultaneous flashing pattern that the device has sent us an SOS. It does take a couple minutes for the device to reconnect satellite and cell to send us the message, but you can repeat the SOS as many times as needed to get the device to call in.
-
Check coverage in the area: If the device is powered on and doing the SOS light behaviors but still no message is coming through on our platform, the current area the tracker is in may have weak or no cell coverage. Take the device outside to eliminate any interference from being indoors, and if it is a rural area, take the device on a trip to a more populated area that would be more likely to have stronger cell coverage.
Please note: When the device has no cell connection, it cannot receive the Reboot command from the Tracker Settings page. The device can only be physically rebooted if the Function Key Setting on the Tracker Settings page has been previously changed to make the button do Power On/Power Off instead of SOS functionality.
GPS (SATELLITE)
Same with cell, the device does not show any lights to indicate satellite signal is lost, but if you are seeing "last updated a few seconds ago" on our platform then this means cell is working and we are receiving messages from the device, but you may still be seeing an incorrect location on the platform.
- Take the tracker outside with the lights-and-button side facing open sky and keep it moving for 5–10 minutes while pressing and holding the face button 3+ seconds to do the SOS functionality as many times as needed.
- As long as the tracker Reporting mode is Normal mode or higher where the device has motion reporting enabled, Place the device face up on your dashboard under the windshield and take the tracker on a 10+ minute trip.
Please note: The tracker is not pinpoint accurate at low or no speed, so as long as the icon on the map is within a few hundred feet of reality while the device is being held and walked around, this means it does have a satellite connection and troubleshooting is complete.
Question
The device quit reporting while moving.
Answer
Check the current Reporting mode setting of the device. If the device is on Normal mode with a 3, 5, or 10 minute ping rate in motion, this is why. The device does not share a final report when it comes to a stop, so you are seeing the last message from when the device was in motion, which means it went no further than 3/5/10 minutes, came to a stop and went to sleep without reaching the next report interval. The only solution is to turn the Reporting mode in motion up to the maximum 1 minute speed through Performance or Normal modes, which generally keeps the device reporting up to the stop location. If your device is on 1 minute moving mode, then it may have moved into an area with poor cell coverage and lost its cell connection. It should reconnect on its own once it moves back into an area with stronger cell coverage.
Question
I tried to Ping/Reboot/Change Reporting mode on the device but it did not respond immediately, why is that?
Answer
The way this device lives so much longer than the regular Atlas tracker is by turning the cell connection off when at rest. Unfortunately the trade off to that is the device cannot receive commands until it wakes up from sleep and checks in with us, whether that be by moving or hitting its sleep check in interval. If you have the device on hand, you can press and hold the face button to do SOS function that will force it to check in and should trigger it to receive any pending commands you have sent.
Question
What is the expected Battery Life of the unit?
Answer
Since the device is turning the satellite and cell connections off while at rest, it is using practically no battery power when it is not reporting to us, and this means the less often it is reporting to us, the longer it will live.
On the Performance mode with 1 minute moving rate and 3 hour sleep rate, the average lifespan with a couple hours driving or less per day is about 30-35 days.
On the Normal mode with 10 minute moving rate and 12 hour sleep rate, the average lifespan with a couple hours driving or less per day is about 3-5 months.
On the Power Saving mode with no motion reporting enabled and a 24 hour sleep rate, the average lifespan can reach as far as 12+ months.
