Overview
The Swift Wired Tracker is a weatherproof GPS tracking device designed for direct connection to your vehicle's battery. This hardwired installation provides continuous power without the need for battery charging or maintenance.
Key Features:
- Weatherproof design for outdoor installation
- Direct battery connection for reliable power
- Ignition-based reporting (updates based on ignition status, not motion)
- Built-in backup battery for power interruptions
What's Included
Your Swift Wired Tracker package contains:
- Swift Wired Tracker with pre-installed SIM card
- Y-clamp wiring harness (red and black wires with battery clamps)
- Adhesive mounting pad
Note: The SIM card is pre-installed and typically doesn't need to be accessed.
Before You Begin
Vehicle Compatibility
- Compatible with 12V and 24V vehicle electrical systems
- Suitable for cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, and heavy equipment
- Works with both positive and negative ground systems
Planning the Installation
- Locate the battery: Identify your vehicle's battery location
- Identify the battery mounting surface: Find a clean, flat area on top of the battery for tracker placement
- Locate the front of the vehicle: Note which direction is "forward" to properly orient the tracker arrow
- Check wire routing: The Y-clamp wires should easily reach both battery terminals from the mounting position
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle
- Turn off the vehicle and remove the keys
- Engage the parking brake
- Open the hood and locate the battery
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal for safety
- Clean the battery terminals if they show corrosion
Step 2: Prepare for Mounting
- Examine the battery: Locate a clean, flat surface on top of the battery for mounting
- Identify vehicle orientation: Determine which direction is the front of the vehicle
- Locate the arrow on the tracker: Find the directional arrow marked on the device
- Check wire reach: Verify the Y-clamp wires can reach both battery terminals from the mounting position
Step 3: Mount the Tracker
- Mount directly on the battery: The Swift Wired Tracker is designed to be mounted directly on the vehicle's battery
- Clean the battery surface thoroughly where you'll mount the tracker
- Orient the tracker correctly: Position the tracker so the arrow on the device points toward the front of the vehicle
- Remove adhesive backing from the mounting pad
- Press firmly to attach the tracker to the battery surface
- Verify orientation: Double-check that the arrow faces the front of the vehicle
- Allow adhesive to set for a few minutes before proceeding
Step 4: Connect to Battery
- Verify tracker orientation: Ensure the arrow on the tracker points toward the front of the vehicle
-
Connect the red wire (+):
- Attach the red Y-clamp to the positive (+) battery terminal
- Ensure the clamp is tight and secure
- The connection should be metal-to-metal with no corrosion
-
Connect the black wire (-):
- Attach the black Y-clamp to the negative (-) battery terminal
- Ensure the clamp is tight and secure
- This completes the power circuit
Step 5: Secure the Installation
- Check tracker mounting: Ensure the tracker is firmly attached to the battery with the arrow pointing toward the front of the vehicle
- Organize the wires: Route the Y-clamp wires neatly to avoid interference with engine components
- Secure connections: Verify both Y-clamps are tight on their respective battery terminals
- Check for clearance: Ensure the tracker and wires don't interfere with the hood closing
Step 6: Restore Vehicle Power
- Double-check all connections are secure
- Reconnect the negative (-) battery terminal
- Ensure battery terminals are tight
Verifying Installation
Check LED Indicator
The Swift Wired has one LED light on the face of the device:
LED Status Meanings:
- Solid light: Connected to both cellular and GPS service (normal operation)
- Fast flash followed by slow flash: GPS connected, cellular connecting
- No light: Power issue or device not receiving power
Initial Power-Up Test
- Turn on the vehicle ignition (engine doesn't need to start)
- Wait 2-3 minutes for the tracker to boot up
-
Check the LED indicator:
- Should show activity within 1-2 minutes
- May take 5-10 minutes to show solid light (full connection)
Connection Test
- Take the vehicle outside to an open area with good cellular coverage
- Wait 5-10 minutes for GPS and cellular connections to establish
- Check your Hapn account to see if the tracker appears online
- Verify location updates are being received
Troubleshooting
No LED Activity
Possible causes:
- Loose or disconnected battery connections
- Blown fuse in the vehicle's electrical system
- Faulty Y-clamps or wiring
Solutions:
- Check battery connections: Ensure both clamps are tight and making good contact
- Verify battery voltage: Test with multimeter (should be 12V+ for car, 24V+ for truck)
- Inspect wiring: Look for damage, cuts, or loose connections
- Test clamps: Ensure clamps are properly attached to terminals
LED Shows Connection Issues
If GPS connected but cellular not (fast flash, slow flash pattern):
- Move to better cellular coverage area
- Wait up to 15 minutes for cellular connection
- Check for local cellular outages
If no GPS connection:
- Move vehicle to open outdoor area
- Check tracker placement - ensure clear view of sky
- Wait 10+ minutes for GPS satellite acquisition
Tracker Not Appearing in Account
- Verify the tracker is activated in your Hapn account
- Check LED shows solid light (full connection)
- Wait 15-30 minutes for initial check-in
- Contact support if issues persist
Next Steps
After successful installation:
1. Complete Account Setup
- Log into your Hapn account at app.gethapn.com
- Verify the tracker appears in your device list
- Customize the tracker name for easy identification
2. Configure Settings
- Adjust reporting modes if needed (default is Normal mode)
- Set up alerts for important events
- Create boundaries around important locations
3. Test Functionality
- Take a test drive to verify location updates
-
Monitor ignition-based reporting:
- Updates every 1 minute when ignition is ON
- Updates every 3 hours when ignition is OFF
- Verify the tracker shows movement in your account
Important Operating Notes
- Ignition-based reporting: Unlike motion-based trackers, the Swift Wired updates based on ignition status
- Backup battery: Device has a small backup battery for brief power interruptions
- Weatherproof design: Suitable for outdoor installation in various weather conditions
